How To Fix The 5885/Generic Brand Listing Error on Amazon

Over the past 6 months or so, Amazon has been cleaning up their catalog and as such, we have been having major issues listing products that are listed under a "Generic" brand when they should be listed under the corresponding name brand. Unfortunately for us, when someone had originally listed these products, they had done so under a Generic brand; likely because they were either gated in the actual brand name, to get past GTIN/UPC requirements or because they did not know how to make a listing properly.
You have likely come across these errors - when you attempt to list these products on Amazon you are confronted with a big error screen like this:
Fortunately for us, we have found a way to correct these errors so we can sell on these ASINs. This method/fix was found & shared by one of our community members & mod for our public Amazon community, Meezy. Steps to get by the 5885 error: 1. Take a picture of the physical product on a table & with your hand in the picture. This is to show it is a live product and not a stock photo. Make sure the product is fully visible along with the brand name. 2. Attempt to list the item through Seller Central. When you receive this error, take a screen shot of the entire screen, showing the product/ASIN in the background, this error message and a time stamp from your computer (example below)
Open a case with support. Help > Trouble adding a product > Received an error code or message > Error code > Error 5885 - Generics error Include some generic information including the issue you are having, the ASIN/FNSKU etc.
Open the case that is created and "reply" to it. Attach your screenshot of the physical product and the error code screenshot and advise the following: "Attached is a screenshot of the 5885 error I received for ASIN BXXXXXXX as well as a picture of the physical product in hand. Please review and correct this error so I can sell this product. Thank you."
Wait for Amazon to review & approve - as with anything else in support sometimes it can take multiple tries or cases with support before you get someone to do their job properly so do not get discouraged if you get ignored or get a generic response right away.
Once the issue is corrected, you should now be able to sell on the problem ASIN!
